OUTLINE
MUSIK JOSEF
MUSIK JOSEF is the only Maufacturer in Japan specialized in oboes.
JOSEF'S JOURNEY
Yukio NAKAMURA was born in 1954 in Okinawa. After an oboist career in
Germany, he moved back to Japan in 1986 and established the MUSIK JOSEF
company in Tokyo. Alongside the commercialization of reeds and accessories
for musical instruments, Mr. NAKAMURA undertook the study and the manufacture
of the double reed instrument : the oboe.
In February 1991, his long held dream came true : in the vicinity of Tokyo,
he opened his oboe factory. To his credit, he had carefully thought out
plans and a rich experience as performer, he lacked however most of the
technical know-how for manufacturing the instrument. He therefore invited
over his master (oboebuildmaster), Helmut HAGER from Leipzig (Germany),
who over three months taught him the bases of oboe manufacturing. Five
months after Mr. HAGER's departure, Yukio NAKAMURA achieved his very first
instrument on his own.
When Manfred CLEMENT, professor at the Musik Hochschule of Munich and
solo oboist at the radio orchestra of Bayern, tried this oboe, he declared
: "I have been looking for such an instrument for over twenty years,
it's a real gift from heaven for oboists". From then on, he keenly
valued the JOSEF oboe and offered his encouragement and generous advice,
until together they came up with a new model, called "Model CLEMENT".
In April 2001, the untimely death of Manfred CLEMENT brought great sadness,
but the Model CLEMENT remains as a sign of hope and life.
Created first and foremost with the player in mind, the JOSEF oboe is
now used around the world. And we intend to keep searching for an ever
better instrument.
